Smile Design
Smile design is not a treatment in itself — it is the planning stage that comes before one. Using photographs of your teeth, an intraoral scan and, where needed, an X-ray, a digital preview of your new smile is prepared. Tooth length, width proportions, the midline and how much gum shows when you smile are all decided at this stage. That way, what is actually necessary, how much is enough, and what the result will look like are discussed before any treatment starts.
Who Is It For?
It suits anyone considering a change that involves more than one tooth — gaps, crowding, colour differences or uneven tooth length. If a single small filling on one tooth is all that is needed, smile design is unnecessary, and we will tell you so plainly during the assessment.
How It Works
You send your photographs and an X-ray if you have one. Our dentist prepares a design based on your facial features and tooth structure and shows it to you. Changes are made until you are happy with it. Only once the design is approved do the required treatments and the total timeframe become final.
Being Honest About Expectations
A digital design is a target, not a guarantee of an identical result. Gum architecture, bone level and the condition of your existing teeth all affect the outcome. Rather than designing something unachievable, we prefer to show you what is realistic and explain why.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is smile design charged separately?
A digital smile design carried out as part of your treatment plan is not charged separately — it is included in your quote. If you only want to see a design and then decide not to go ahead with treatment, you are under no obligation. After you send photographs or an X-ray, we share the design together with a written list of which procedures would be needed.
Can I see the design beforehand?
Yes. That is precisely the point: to see the result before treatment begins. The design is sent to you as a digital image, and in suitable cases a temporary mock-up can be tried in the mouth. If there is anything you are not happy with, it is changed. Nothing is done to any tooth without your approval.
Will the result match the design exactly?
That is what we aim for, but it would be dishonest to claim it will be identical. Gum level, bone structure and the current condition of your teeth all influence the final outcome. We design what is achievable and explain in advance where differences may arise.
